Keeping the hours - church open noon til three Good Friday and when at Worship over Holy Week and Easter weekend.
The
Stations of the Cross have formed part of Christian devotion at
Passion-tide for many centuries because they enable us to engage
actively with the path of suffering walked by Jesus.
They
originated when early Christians visited Jerusalem and wanted to
follow literally in the footsteps of Jesus, tracing the path to
Calvary. They would pause for prayer and devotion at various points.
Eventually those pilgrims brought the practice back to their home
countries and ever since then Christians of differing traditions have
used this form of devotion.
In
the late fourteenth century the Franciscans were given the
responsibility for the holy places of Jerusalem and they erected
tableaux to aid the devotion of the visitors. These kinds of images
are now commonplace inside churches, and occasionally outside them.
This
year we might begin to create
our own version of the stations,
offered by you.
Thank you.
Please
produce your image/creation on the canvas boards available in church. Bring your own drawing and painting medium if you wish but supplies available
Feel
free to create your design in what ever way you wish? You may want to
do a representation of the story in the bible reference, or maybe you
are drawn to one part of the words? What does this station’s Title
say or mean to you? Remember this is your image- there is no wrong
or right!!
